2017 Sydney International Cup a Success

Congratulations to both Melbourne Football Academy teams with an impressive showing in the 2017 Sydney International Cup. The Sydney International Cup brought together more than 80 youth teams from across Australia and overseas. We are proud of the way our teams performed placing 2nd and 3rd and exhibiting a great brand of football and sportsmanship.

The U13’s finished 3rd in a hotly contested division. They were one win away from making it into the final. After qualifying through to the finals, they had a tight come from behind 1/4 final to make it into the semis with a thrilling 2-1 victory. Overall, they had a great tournament with a powerful performance in their final match winning 3-0 to clinch 3rd place. This team never ceases to surprise with their sheer determination.

The U11’s finished Runners-Up in a tough 16 team division. After a first round loss, the team pulled off 4 straight wins to claim a spot in the championship final. Sadly they fell short with a 3 – 1 loss. It was a tough final, competing against quality opposition and state rep teams, the U11s are happy with what they accomplished in this years Sydney International Cup. Their speed, drive, teamwork and solid defensive play were their keys to success. This was one of the most successful tournaments that this team has had to date. They had a great time and matured as a group.

Congratulations to Billy Hohtoulas for winning the Golden Glove for the U11’s competition.

A speedy recovery to our Warrior Henry Pandit we hope to see you on the pitch real soon.

We are extremely proud of our teams and players for their outstanding play and sportsmanship during the 2017 Sydney International Cup.

We look forward to SIC2018!
